The Uros community inhabits small islands on Lake Titicaca and have done so for hundreds of years for the inhabitant had to learn to harvest the totora, then gather them in large quantities, join them by the root and thus shape their small islands as if they were platforms. These villagers are also known as the children of the mama cocha which means mother lake, because they have to maintain their islands daily, adding new layers of “Totora” (lake plant), also their homes and boats are made of the same plant.
The excursion to the Floating Islands of the Uros begins with the pick up at the hotel from 8:45 am to transfer you to the Port of Puno where we will board a motor boat that will take us to the fascinating floating islands of the Uros. During our visit we will be able to explore the island, its typical houses, souvenir stores, take a ride on one of their totora reed boats at an additional cost, wear their typical attire and take pictures with the locals or with some traditional attire. After our visit we will return to Puno.
